Guillermo Cobelo, president of the first Official Chamber of Commerce of Spain in the Middle East and regional director of Técnicas Reunidas, is the new regional vice president of the Federation of Official Chambers of Commerce of Spain in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Oceania ( FEDECOM), an international non-profit association that, created in 1996, currently brings together the 23 Official Chambers of Commerce of Spain abroad recognized by the Spanish Administration in the aforementioned areas. With its presence, Cobelo will look after the interests of the associated regional chambers, such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, South Africa, Senegal, Casablanca, Tangier and Morocco. Likewise, it will act as coordinator of actions of an economic, social or cultural nature and will promote a permanent and firm relationship with the Chamber of Spain. The Federation is supervised by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness by virtue of Royal Decree 786/1979, of March 16, which establishes the regulatory norms of the General Statute of the Spanish Chambers of Commerce officially recognized abroad, modified by Royal Decree 1717/2004, of July 23. FEDECOM was established with the main objective of exhaustively monitoring the initiatives of the European Union (EU) with direct impact on the business world and the Official Chambers of Commerce of Spain abroad. Currently, its main mission consists of defending the general interests of its associates, the harmonization of administrative procedures, information on adequate instruments for the proper development of its activities, dialogue with the regulatory authority and with the Chamber of Spain, as well as such as the development of relations with international institutions and in particular with those belonging to the EU.
The governing body of the entity is the Board of Directors, today chaired by Eduardo Barrachina, belonging to the Official Chamber of Commerce of Spain in the United Kingdom. In addition to Cobelo, María José Rodríguez, of the Official Chamber of Commerce of Spain in Australia, and Peter Hager, of the Official Chamber of Commerce of Spain in the Philippines, are also members of Cobelo.
The president of FEDECOM, Eduardo Barrachina, has stated that “the creation of regional vice presidencies will boost FEDECOM.” “I am delighted that the vice-presidency for Africa and the Middle East is held by President Cobelo; We have a lot of work ahead of us, but Guillermo and the Chamber in the United Arab Emirates are an example of effective management in the chamber system; Together, little by little, we are making history and I thank Técnicas Reunidas for their commitment to FEDECOM ”, he stated. Guillermo Cobelo, for his part, has declared, as the new vice president of FEDECOM, that “it is precisely in these moments of greater uncertainty that, among all of us, we have to give support and support to Spanish companies”.
“If something has defined the objective of the chamber system abroad, it is the backbone of the national business fabric beyond our borders,” he underlined below. “I hope to be up to the task,” he said, after which he thanked all the Chambers of Commerce of Spain located in the Middle East and Africa as well as the rest of the Chambers of the federation, with a special mention to the president, Eduardo Barrachina . The Africa and Middle East region currently integrates a total of seven Spanish Chambers of Commerce whose mission is to establish a corporate platform that strengthens the business and cultural ties of the countries that host them with Spain. They are the following: Official Chamber of Commerce of Spain in Senegal, chaired by Gaspar Baños; Official Chamber of Commerce of Spain in South Africa, chaired by José María Segurola; Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation of Casablanca, chaired by Juan García Muñoz; Official Chamber of Commerce of Spain in Tunis, chaired by Boujbel Mohsen; Official Chamber of Commerce of Spain in Tangier, chaired by José Estévez Martínez; Official Chamber of Commerce of Spain in Qatar, chaired by José Vicente; and the Official Chamber of Commerce of Spain in the Middle East, chaired by Guillermo Cobelo.
