Latest news from the Embassy of Spain in Abu Dhabi: Travel Conditions

View All News

Dubai June 24,

Dear citizens:

As you are undoubtedly aware, various reports have circulated in recent days about new travel conditions in the UAE, both outbound and inbound. We can confirm that the Embassies have not received any official communication from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is the established communication channel, which has generated doubts and confusion, especially when establishing points such as the authenticity of these conditions. or if they apply to travel to or from Spain. The apparent contradiction between these measures, issued by a federal entity, and those announced by the emirate of Dubai, which provides for a total opening without any travel restrictions, has not helped either in this case. All European Embassies share this ignorance and we are coordinating on it.

In any case, we summarize these measures here for your knowledge as we have been sent through various channels, none official, in the face of various requests for information from residents who knew about the circulation of this information.

  • Any resident wishing to return to the UAE will need to register on the Federal Citizenship and Immigration Authority (ICA) website and obtain a return permit. This permit is valid for 21 days from issue.
  • If the resident previously leaves the UAE, the Al Hosn app must be downloaded.
  • Before returning to the UAE, the resident must undergo a medical examination to verify that they are not affected by the coronavirus and do so at one of the medical centers approved by the UAE Embassy, centers that can be consulted on the Authority’s website Federal Immigration and Citizenship. This center must provide the result of the examination between 24 and 48 hours after its completion.
  • The performance of the medical examination must be proven with the issuance of a certificate by the medical center. That certificate cannot be more than 4 days old from the date of return to the UAE.
During the return flight, the resident must fill out a form.
  • The competent UAE medical authorities will be able to estimate the need for a new PCR test on arrival.
  • Residents who had obtained the return approval issued by the ICA before 6/22/2020 will not be affected by these new steps.
  • All residents are still required to undergo a home quarantine. If the address does not meet the appropriate conditions, the quarantine will be in a public center and will be borne by the resident.

We insist that the Embassies have not been recipients of this communication. We have confirmed with the airlines that the flights remain scheduled without changes. Therefore, we ask you to be careful with the information above and to inform yourself thoroughly with the airline you are flying with before actually traveling. As soon as we get new information or confirmations about all of the above, we will inform you.
