In its second edition, the event has already been consolidated and has the participation of great football teams like Real Madrid, Liverpool, Juventus and FC Barcelona. Also, some legends of football have been supporting this competition and players like Nicolas Anelka, Michel Salgado and David Trezeguet were seen at the facilities of Dubai Sports City.
The Spanish Soccer School team also had a great role reaching the quarterfinals of the tournament after beating Egypt’s Al Ahly (a very strong team in their local competition) and losing against AFA Angola by a tight 1-2.
Finally, after an exciting game against Real Madrid, Ghana’s Lizzy Sports team (founded by veteran French player Marcel Desailly) won the penalties (1-1 at the end of regulation time).
The competition was thrilling and we could appreciate the differences of the game at an early age. On one side we could see the tradition, technique and mechanisms of the great European clubs of long history and on the other we could also admire the great physical power in of the African teams.
At a local level, the competition was also attended by some authorities, among them H.E. Saeed Mohammed Hareb, Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council (DSC), Mr. Santiago Jiménez, Consul of Spain in the United Arab Emirates and Mr. Albert Jové, Vice Chairman of the Spanish Business Council, among others.
The tournament was broadcasted on television by Dubai TV and the signal could be seen all over the world and had a huge audience. The wide presence of the sponsors helped to spread the tournament and their collaboration was very helpful for the organization and the prices thereof.

The Intercontinental Cup was founded by Spain and Real Madrid Legend Michel Salgado two years ago and its target is to bring the best young football players of the world to play against the local teams such as Al Wasl, Al Nasr or Al Wahda and promote the multicultural experience of the youth.
